The word miniatura does not mean a short piece, but a work which is meticulously elaborated, like the ornate initial letter at the beginning of a Medieval codex. Estrosa is instead a word that evokes a series of various nuances: fantasy, creative intuition, inspiration and geniality, but also extravagance and eccentricity. At the beginning of each miniature piece, a certain amount of keys are pressed and kept resonated by the tonal pedal, and not raised again until the end of the piece. Thanks to the interaction between the notes played and the multiple resonances coming from the strings being held by the pedal, the sound balance of the piano is transformed so much so that the pianist finds himself in front of a metamorphosed instrument that Marco Stroppa defines as the pianoforte d’amore, in homage to the viola d’amore characterized by a second series of strings that exists exclusively for resonance.
